KORONGATA MARAE

SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING

12 October 2024.

At the Korongata Marae AGM held on Saturday 24 August 2024 an amendment to the charter was proposed. It was agreed that the wording be reviewed by the Trustees and presented at a Special General Meeting to be ratified. For this purpose, an SGM was held on Saturday 12 October 2024.

Background:

Korongata Marae now has an Independent Accountant - On All Accounts (Angela Williams).

The proposed changes remove the mandatory obligation to have an annual audit of the financial accounts which is very costly. It empowers the Korongata Marae beneficiaries and trustees to request to have the finances audited when needed.

Everyone in attendance approved the following motion.

"That Clause 4.8 of the Korongata Marae Charter be replaced with this - ‘The Beneficiaries at an AGM or SGM may determine from time to time by resolution to have the Marae financial accounts audited or reviewed by an independent auditor appointed by the Trustees' and that we remove the word 'audited' from clause 4,9"

Motion moved by Alieta Uelese, and  seconded by Kathleen O'Shaughnessy, All in favour, Ae, motion carried

The following motion was also approved at this SGM following the approval of the above amendment to the charter.

"The financial accounts for the year ended 31 March 2024, that were presented at the AGM held on 24 August 2024 were approved and there is no need for the accounts to be audited"

Motion moved by Alayna Watene, and  seconded by Kathleen O'Shaughnessy, All in favour, Ae, motion carried

The Charter has now been efficiently updated and a new set has been sent to the Māori Land Court for their records. Click here to view the Charter.
